General Information
At the beginning of the nineties, Norway - like most other European countries - was facing growing mountains of waste. Packaging waste accounted for a considerable proportion of this. In 1991 the parliament thus issued a declaration obliging the business community to reduce the amount of packaging used and to collect recyclable waste. Several material waste management companies were set up during the following years. As of 2001 there are five such companies each managing separate systems for collection and recovery of the various packaging materials. Grnt Punkt Norge AS was set up in 1998 to assist the waste managing companies collect membership fees, and joined the group of Green Dot organisations in Europe in January 2000.
